A Bodyguard in Baghdad (and Other Places)

My best friend:

For all the AK-fans - no, I don't know which country made it

We upgraded to Russian PKM 7.62mmx54R machineguns - penetrates vehicles a lot better than the 5.56mm SAW:

Gotta love it...

Problem is, it takes time and a lot of manual labour to fill up those ammo-belts again once the fun is over (note the ever-present Gatorade and WD-40):

Sore fingers, oh my...

Another shot of a PKM mounted in a tower at one of the gates:

Comforting firepower

Gurkha Dan playing Rambo with a SAW:

Dan wanted a cool pic so he could impress the girls back home

OP through NVGs (the inside of an Observation Post as seen through Night Vision Goggles):

We had a few people try to creep up on us at night who came to regret it

Some other toys - the Casspir, a South African-designed mine-proof vehicle. We found them too slow for convoy use, so we used them for patrols out in the desert wherever we were knew there were old munitions:

Who the hell had the bright idea to paint it white? Stands out like a dog's bollocks...

We got an additional armoured truck called the Mamba - also a mine-proof vehicle from South Africa - again, too slow for regular convoy-use:

Weird-looking thing, but surprisingly comfortable
